Designed by the American architect Frank O. Gehry, the Guggenheim Museum combines the cutting edge architecture with magnificent scenery to host master-pieces of modern and contemporary art.

Since its inauguration in 1997, both the museum and the dog Puppy – a sculpture made out of flowers by Jeff Koons located in the outside of the building – have become Bilbao’s most internationally known symbols. They are part of the collection of pieces designed by highly recognised artists like David Salle, Chillida, Jeff Koons, Louis Bourgeois and Robert Rauschenberg.

The Guggenheim Museum also offers a range of activities for all visitors who want to broaden their knowledge of art. They will be informed not only about the interesting anecdotes behind the architecture and construction, but also about the exhibitions on view.
